Hans-Christian Oeser, born 1950 in Wiebaden, works as a literary translator and editor. He lives in Dublin and Berlin. He specialises in Irish literature. Among the authors he has translated are Sebastian Barry, Brendan Behan, Maeve Brennan, Anne Enright, Claire Keegan, Bernard MacLaverty, Eugene McCabe, John McGahern, John Montague, Jamie O'Neill and William Trevor. He has translated classics such as Charles Dickens, D. H. Lawrence, W. M. Thackeray, Mark Twain, Oscar Wilde and Virginia Woolf. Oeser is the author of travel books about Dublin and Ireland, an Oscar Wilde ABC and a biography of James Joyce (with J. Schneider). He has edited numerous anthologies and foreign language texts. Most recently, he was awarded the Straelen Translation Prize. He will live at the Künstlerhaus for 11 months.
