Gunther Geltinger was born in Erlenbach am Main in 1974 and resides in Cologne. He studied screenwriting and dramaturgy at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and did his postgraduate studies at the Cologne Academy for Media Arts.
Today he is writing prose, screen plays and libretti as a freelance author. His prose debut „Mensch Engel“ was published in 2008 and was translated into several languages, 2013 he published his second novel „Moor“ with Suhrkamp in Germany. Gunther Geltinger is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Rolf-Dieter-Brinkmann-Stipendium of the city of Cologne (2007), the artist-in-residendy at Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (2009), the Heinrich-Heine-fellowship of the city of Lüneburg (2011) as well as the artist-in-residencies at the Herrenhaus Edenkoben and in the artist village Schreyahn. 2011 he became „Island-Writer“ on Sylt, 2013 he was awarded the advancement prize for Literature by the federal state of North Rhine Westphalia. Until March 2016 he will be an awardee of the Villa Concordia fellowship at the Internationales Künstlerhaus.
