Frequently Asked Questions
What is the International House of Artists Villa Concordia?
The International House of Artists Villa Concordia (Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia) is a cultural institution founded by the Free State of Bavaria to promote the arts and enrich the cultural life of Bamberg and the region. A variety of cultural events open to the general public take place throughout the year. More information on the villa itself and its history can be found under the heading "HOUSE". Each year twelve artists representing the fields of visual arts, literature and music receive a fellowship to live and work at the Villa Concordia for five or eleven months. Each group of visiting artists includes six members from one featured foreign country. More information on our current and former fellows can be found under "ARTISTS".
Can I apply for a fellowship?
Unfortunately, no. Artists are admitted to the International House of Artists Villa Concordia by invitation only. An independent board of trustees nominated by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts is charged with electing fellows. Fellowships are offered to individuals who have already demonstrated exceptionally successful artistic work and are not provided as support for emerging artists.
