The Künstlerhaus consists of three buildings:
Villa Concordia (the main building), the new orangery in the garden of Villa Concordia, and the Neuer Ebracher Hof. Twelve artists live and work here at the same time.

How can the Free State of Bavaria express its appreciation for the arts—literature, music, and the visual arts? This fellowship is a special honor.

HISTORY
Built on the banks of the Regnitz from 1716 to 1722

Built between 1716 and 1722 on the banks of the Regnitz River, Villa Concordia is a significant monument to Baroque architecture and culture. The structure is the second building designed by Ignaz Tobias Böttinger in Bamberg. The first residence he built is located not far from Villa Concordia on Judenstraße and is currently used by the Böttingerhaus art galleries.
Since 1998, Villa Concordia has become a place where new literature, visual arts, and music are created, where artists from various cultures meet, exchange ideas, and—sometimes even collaboratively—develop projects.

Numerous events throughout the year
The name “Concordia” evokes harmony and unity. And indeed, a residency at the Künstlerhaus offers established artists a peaceful place to work undisturbed and with full concentration for 5 to 11 months. Artists cannot apply for this residency fellowship on their own; instead, they are invited by a board of curators and honored by the Free State of Bavaria for their body of work. Through a wide variety of events, art enthusiasts have the opportunity to get to know the artists and their works through exhibitions, readings, and concerts. The Künstlerhaus offers a high-quality program—usually with free admission!

Villa Concordia itself houses two apartments with a Baroque ambiance; the new orangery, completed in 1999 and located in the garden behind the villa, contains six maisonette apartments; and the second building, Neuer Ebracher Hof—the former city palace of the monks of Ebrach Abbey—houses four additional apartments.
In addition, there is an exhibition space in the modern wing of Villa Concordia, a small library, and cozy common areas.
However, the atmosphere of the Bamberg Artists’ House is not defined solely by a harmonious, meditative ambiance. Rather, “Concordia” here may also allude to the stimulating fusion of old and new, of sophisticated Baroque and clean-lined modernism—and not least, of a quiet retreat with an open art space.
