The Grim Reaper—sometimes with a scythe, sometimes without, but always dancing, the final tango with humanity. With each and every one of us. The last attempts to justify oneself, to explain oneself; the last chance to lament what has been missed, to ask for forgiveness…

Since the Middle Ages, the Dance of Death has been a phenomenon in art history, always donning new guises over its pale bones. Whether in classical or modern music, in the visual arts, in theater, or even in video games—there is dancing, and more dancing. On this evening, Nora-Eugenie Gomringer and Martin Beyer delve into this tradition, present old and new examples, and speak with, among others, the Dance of Death expert Michael Hanisch.

The event is part of a festival marking the performance of the new Dance of Death on Bamberg’s Domplatz on October 30–31 and November 1, 2026: [agil-bamberg.de/totentanz-2026](https://www.agil-bamberg.de/totentanz_2026V.php)
