As she fills sheet after sheet with portraits and scenes of quiet observation and reflection—which seem full of ambiguity as they negotiate a tension between a forceful gesture and a defiantly soft response—a nuanced exhibition emerges, whose title draws on a famous German pop song: “Marble, Stone, and Iron.” This affinity for pop culture, her engagement with it, her love of songs, and the decidedly critical reflection on painting in her own work promise an exciting exhibition.
