Evan Gardner was born in Massachusetts, USA. He studied composition at Oberlin Conservatory, the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. In 2006 he composed the original music for the Norwegian short film "Sniffer", winner of the 2006 Palme d’Or for Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2012 he was one of three winners of the Deutsche Oper Berlin’s composition prize, “Neue Szenen” and his opera "Die Unterhändlerin" was premiered there in 2013. His music has been performed by various ensembles including Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Arditti Quartet, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Hamburger Symphoniker. Evan Gardner currently lives and works in Bergen, Norway and Berlin.
