The exhibition will be open through October 25, 2026, at the following times with free admission: Sat & Sun 11 a.m.–4 p.m., Mon–Thu 10 a.m.–3 p.m., and Fri 10 a.m.–1 p.m.

Through the light and spatial qualities of her temporary studio in Bamberg, Johanna Ehmke finds her way into the gestures and movements of drawing. As she fills sheet after sheet with portraits and scenes of quiet observation and reflection—which seem full of ambiguity as they negotiate a tension between a forceful gesture and a defiantly soft response—a nuanced exhibition emerges, whose title draws on a famous German pop song: “Marble, Stone, and Iron.” This affinity for pop culture, her engagement with it, her love of songs, and the decidedly critical reflection on painting in her own work promise an exciting exhibition. Color and sound may appear intertwined within it, transforming the exhibition space at Villa Concordia into a hall of mirrors that opens up to the viewer and invites them in.
