Leon Engler grew up in Munich and studied theater, film, media, cultural studies, and psychology in Vienna, Paris, and Berlin. He has published numerous plays, radio plays, and short stories; in 2022, he was awarded the 3sat Prize at the Bachmann Competition and won the “Science & Theatre 2025” playwriting competition. He works as an author, psychologist, and lecturer in psychology and creative writing. His debut novel, “Botanik des Wahnsinns,” was published by DuMont Buchverlag.
The author was awarded the residency fellowship at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by Bavarian Minister of State Markus Blume, at the suggestion of the Villa Concordia literary fellowship board members Tanja Graf, Director of the Literaturhaus München, and Dr. Katharina von Ruckteschell-Katte, Goethe Institut e.V. He will work there for five months from mid-April to mid-September 2026.
