As a composer, Julia Mihály works at the intersection of contemporary music, music theater, and electronic music. She creates multi-layered works that integrate sound, video, and performative elements, often incorporating electronic media and drawing heavily on the specific characteristics of the performance venues. In 2025, Julia Mihály and author Sina Ahlers were awarded the Ottilie Roederstein Fellowship by the State of Hessen. Together, the two artists are developing a music theater piece that will premiere at the Staatstheater Kassel in 2027. In 2026, Julia Mihály was awarded the GEMA German Music Authors’ Prize in the “Music Theater/Stage” category. She has previously appeared as a guest at Wien Modern, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm, and the Taschenopernfestival Salzburg, among others. Her complete compositional works are published by Topus Musikverlag Berlin.

Julia Mihály was awarded the residency fellowship at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by Bavarian State Minister Markus Blume at the suggestion of Villa Concordia Music Fellowship Board members Marcus Rudolf Axt, Director of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Imke List, Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and Prof. Rainer Kotzian, President of the Nuremberg University of Music. She will compose there for 11 month from mid-April through mid-March 2027.
