Eva Profousová, born in Prague in 1963, has lived in Germany since 1983, where she studied Czech and Russian studies as well as Eastern European history. Since 2002, she has worked as a freelance translator of contemporary Czech and Slovak prose into German (Jáchym Topol, Radka Denemarková, Jaroslav Rudiš, Katarína Kucbelová) and as a moderator. She describes herself as a lecturer, seminar leader, and/or mentor who contributes to the training of literary translators and, as a member of Weltlesebühne e.V., to raising the profile of the translation profession. She has received several awards for her work, most recently the Literature Prize of the Kunststiftung NRW—Straelen Translation Prize (2024) and the Brücke Berlin Translation Prize (2022).
The author was awarded the residency fellowship at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by Bavarian Minister of State Markus Blume, at the suggestion of the Villa Concordia literary fellowship board members Tanja Graf, Director of the Literaturhaus München, and Dr. Wolf Iro of the Goethe-Institut e.V. She will be working there for 11 month, from mid-April through mid-March 2027.
