Karel Štědrý, born 1985 in Prague, is a Czech artist working primarily with geometric abstraction in painting and spatial interventions. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM) in the studio of Stanislav Diviš and received the Ars Kontakt Award in 2010.
His practice explores the relationship between rational structure and intuitive gesture, combining precise compositional systems with elements of spontaneity. Alongside painting, he develops sculptural objects inspired by modular construction principles, referencing the Czech Merkur building system and its cultural legacy. His work engages with architectural contexts and public space, reflecting on geometry as both formal language and spatial framework. Since 2002, he has exhibited internationally in institutional and gallery contexts in Europe and Asia.

The artist was awarded the residency fellowship at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by Bavarian State Minister Markus Blume at the suggestion of Villa Concordia art fellowship board members Walter Storms, gallery owner, and Katharina Vossenkuhl, Director of the Götz Collection. He will work in Bamberg for 11 month from mid-April to mid-March 2027.
